Knit Products for a Cause
Tink Knit is a Brown University & RISD student-run nonprofit that enables low-income single mothers in Rhode Island to make a supplemental income through knitting. We provide the single mothers part-time income at home while taking care of their kids, and empower them to develop sustainable skills with the ultimate goal of becoming financially independent.
The word “tink” is the reverse lettering of “knit.”
“Tink” is a technical knitting term that describes knitting backwards to unravel a mistake and then continuing the knitting piece - which correlates to our mission of helping single mothers in Providence. We all make knitting mistakes. The real trick is being able to move on from them, which is how we help single mothers improve their lives. When you unknit you are simply unraveling your knitting stitch by stitch so that you can fix your mistake and carry on with your knitting. Our logo, tink | knit, illustrates the path our mothers take to knit their lives back on track.
